After arriving in Stoke we were taken to Harry's house to drop off our stuff and establish the sleeping pecking order i.e. who got the sofa the chair or the floor. I'll be honest I felt slightly un-easy about the situation because of the unexpected culture shock. Just to clarify, the gun isn't real.

Shortly after dropping of our stuff we retreated to the safety of the local pub. I took this shot as we left the pub to do some preliminary research.

The morning after! When we returned to the house we discovered our hosts were having a "social gathering" the house party went on for sometime. although enjoyable to start with we were a little out of place. At around 3am we made the decision to leave and find an alternative place to sleep. We ended up staying on the floor of one of the staff students floors. This was one of my first sights after waking up.

My research made me want to see the Burslem area of Stoke. Upon arrival I came across three of the remaining twelve bottle kilns at Acme Marls, Woodbank Street, Burslem. Stoke on trent was once littered with kilns and other potteries. This is a heritage the community seem proud of, yet there seems to be little evidence of preserving whats left.

Sites like this dominate the area of Burslem. The wire fences around the site have heavy signs of rust and decay. It is evident that no-one is in any hurry to redevelop around this area.

Along the high street in Burslem there are several vacant retail units. This maybe due to the large retail park that was opened just down the road. I think there is a whole project that could be done on Burslem high street alone, and this is something that I am considering.
